When to use SOS?

We know that the day of a healthcare provider (HCP) can be busy. SOS was developed to help make your job easier by providing support when you need it. Our clinical education team is available to HCPs on weekdays, for instant live chat. When a phone call is not enough, we have video conference available. It’s just like we’re with you in the clinic!

What do you need for an SOS meeting?

There is no need for additional software - the SOS video conference can be accessed via a link with one click.

Meaghan Kane-Benjamin MS, CCC-SLP

Meaghan received her BA in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Montclair State University, NJ and MA in Speech and Hearing Science in 1995 from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. She began her career practicing under the mentorship of Mark Singer, MD, and Carla Gress, PhD. After eight years at University of California, San Francisco as Clinical Manager specializing in head and neck cancer rehabilitation, Meaghan relocated to continue her practice with the Otolaryngology Department at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, IL. Having extensive clinical experience with TE voice restoration, she has directed and been invited faculty at numerous national seminars and training programs for laryngectomy rehabilitation.

Meaghan has been employed by Atos Medical since 2006 and is currently a Senior Clinical Educator.

Samantha Jones MA, CCC-SLP
Senior Clinical Educator, Southeast and Midwest

Samantha began her career as a clinical specialist in voice and head/neck cancer at Carolinas Healthcare System main campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has over 25 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) with the last fifteen focused on treatment of the head and neck oncology and laryngectomee populations. Samantha worked as a program lead within Levine Cancer Institute Head and Neck Cancer and Survivorship Departments and assisted in program development and clinical education throughout the healthcare system. During her tenure there, she hosted city-wide laryngectomee seminars and founded the only voice club in Charlotte, the Greater Charlotte Chatterboxes.

Samantha joined Atos Medical in 2017 and is currently a Clinical Educator.

Alyssa Freeman MS, CCC-SLP

Alyssa received her MA in speech-language pathology from the University of Florida in 2016. She first joined the clinical faculty at UF Health, where she gained extensive experience managing voice prostheses and ran the Laryngectomee Support Club. Alyssa then moved to Boston to work at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as a part of the acute care and head and neck oncology teams. While at Beth Israel, she worked in the ICUs, focusing on dysphagia, tracheostomy and alternative and augmentative communication. With her prior experience in voice prosthesis (VP) management, she helped establish a robust VP management program and was able to allow more patients the option of tracheoesophageal voice restoration.

Alyssa joined Atos Medical in 2022.

Barbara Pisano Messing PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, FASHA

Barbara is a Clinical Educator with Atos Medical. Before joining Atos in 2022, she obtained extensive clinical, research, and leadership experience as Administrative-Clinical Director in an acute medical hospital setting and head and neck oncology and voice disorders clinic in an outpatient setting. She attained her doctorate from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, under the guidance of her esteemed advisors, Dr. Elizabeth Ward and Dr. Cathy Lazarus. She has lectured nationally and internationally on dysphagia and published in peer-reviewed journals on managing patients with head and neck cancer and voice disorders. Her clinical and research interests include head and neck cancer rehabilitation, dysphagia, and voice disorders.

Barbara has been employed with Atos Medical since 2022.

Casey Richardson MA, CCC-SLP

Casey Richardson began her career as a speech-language pathologist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2016 where she completed her fellowship training and continued as a senior speech language pathologist and Education Coordinator for the Section of Speech Pathology and Audiology since 2019. She has facilitated the audiology and speech-language pathology graduate student and fellowship programs in addition to collaboratively developing MD Anderson education offerings both internally and externally under Dr. Katherine Hutcheson. She specializes in the treatment of patients with head and neck cancer with expertise in dysphagia evaluation/intervention and alaryngeal voice and pulmonary rehabilitation following total laryngectomy. She has had the opportunity to participate in clinical research with a focus on dysphagia and post-laryngectomy rehabilitation. Additionally, she has presented at local and national conferences and is a strong advocate for the laryngectomy community.

Casey joined Atos in May 2023 as a Clinical Educator.

Carmin Bartow MS, CCC-SLP
Tracheostomy Clinical Educator

Carmin began her career as a speech-language pathologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, where she specialized in dysphagia management, head and neck cancer, and tracheostomy practice for over two decades. Her contributions were pivotal in the development and success of a multidisciplinary tracheostomy team. From 2012-2022, she maintained Board Certification in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. Carmin is an experienced educator at the local, regional, and national levels, including several years as an adjunct instructor for the Dysphagia course at Tennessee State University and as an invited guest lecturer for many SLP and RT programs throughout the US. She has authored and co-authored multiple peer reviewed papers and presentations on dysphagia, tracheostomy practice, and multidisciplinary tracheostomy teams. Her career included a balance between her clinical role and part-time work as a Clinical Consultant for Passy-Muir leading to a full-time Clinical Specialist position there in 2020.

Carmin joined Atos Medical in 2024 as a Tracheostomy Clinical Educator.

Atos Medical SOS program uses a HIPAA-compliant service that provides secure and encrypted audio, video chat and screen sharing information. This service is intended for clinicians only. We are unable to offer SOS directly to patients. If your patient will be present during a video chat, you will need to obtain their permission prior to the call. SOS is not available on weekends, observed US holidays and when Atos offices are closed.
